Dennis R. Sponseller 1957-2025

CORTLAND — Dennis R. Sponseller, 67, passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown.Hospital.
He was born Aug. 21, 1957, in Warren, a son of the late Atlee Wayne Sponseller and the late Mary Marie Edwards Sponseller.
He married the former Linda S. Miller on Dec. 13, 2014.
Dennis was a 1975 graduate of Champion High School, where he enjoyed playing his trumpet in the marching band. He later retired from RMI Titanium after over 30 years of service in the steel industry.
Dennis was a selfless, compassionate and hardworking man who would do anything for anyone. He enjoyed a project and could fix anything, or at least try to. His most recently completed project was his workout room, where he liked spending time.
Dennis was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also liked watching old TV shows like “MASH” and “The Andy Griffith Show” and enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and country music.
Dennis had a camp in Pennsylvania where he also liked spending time. He also had an interest in anything that had to do with astronomy. Most of all, Dennis loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events.
He is survived by his wife, Linda S. Sponseller of Cortland; daughters, Bonnie (Aaron Scofield) Sponseller of Champion and Brittany (Jason) Schwab of Abilene, Texas; stepson, Aaron (Sabrina Stein) Poturica of Austintown; stepdaughter, Amanda (Chris Howser) Blose of Champion; brothers, Alan (Debra Dugan) Sponseller of Broadview Heights and Ray (Joyce) Sponseller of Bristolville; sister, Mary Jeanne Hutchison of Cortland; grandchildren, Annabella, Lucien and Jack; aunt, Carole Sponseller; and sisters-in-law, Kimberly Molek, Lee Ann (Fred) Shelton, Denyse (Brett) McCurdy and Deborah Bartlett; along with many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan, with whom he shared 30 wonderful years of marriage before her passing, May, 2, 2011. He was also preceded in death by a baby sister, Jodelle Sponseller.
Services will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Joel Dickson will officiate. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Champion Township Cemetery.
