Betty Jean Ferrebee 1934-2025

CORTLAND — Betty Jean Ferrebee, 91, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2025, at her home.
Betty was born June 29, 1934, in Central Station, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ezra and Corma Garner.
She was a 1953 graduate of Doddridge County (W.Va.) High School and married the love of her life, Edgar “Steve” Ferrebee, shortly after graduation on May 21, 1953.
She worked at Ames Department Store for 16 years before retiring in 1991.
She was a member of the Mecca United Methodist Church and the Cortland United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, gardening, canning, taking care of her flowerbeds, reading and puzzles. She was passionate about food and loved her Coke Zero and a cup of coffee throughout the day. She loved cooking for everyone and making sure no one was left hungry. When she couldn’t cook, she was always ready to take everyone out to eat and demanded she pay for it. She enjoyed traveling with her friends on many trips. She was a loving and giving person who was always willing to help anyone in need.
Betty will be deeply missed by her daughters, Barbara Howard and Susan (Owen) Cunningham; grandchildren, Steven Waltenbaugh, Kenny Waltenbaugh, Nathanial Ferrebee, Stephanie Ferrebee and Aaron Byers; great-grandchildren, Luke and Isabel Byers; and brother, Marion “Buck” (Pat) Garner.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edgar, who passed away July 7, 2004; son, Stephen Ferrebee; grandson, Tyler Byers; sisters, Shirley Towner and Ella Ruth Walton; and son-in-law, Ken Howard.
Per Betty’s wishes, there are no calling hours or services.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Cortland United Methodist Church in her memory.
