William E. Spurk 1936-2025

CHAMPION — William E. “Bill” Spurk, 89, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, July 17, 2025, with his loving wife and daughter by his side.
Born May 13, 1936, in Warren, Bill was the son of Raymond and Clara Lane Spurk.
He attended Warren G. Harding High School and was a proud U.S. Army veteran.
Bill began his professional journey with the Grinnell Corporation, where he advanced to the position of office manager. After the company closed, he joined his brothers as co-owner of M.V.G. Inc., a family business he helped run for over 40 years, until his retirement in 2006.
Bill was of the Catholic faith. He was known for his many talents and determination — anything he set his mind to, he accomplished. His kindness, work ethic and unwavering devotion to his family and friends left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Bill is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife of over 67 years, JoAnn Crepage Spurk, whom he married June 21, 1958. He also leaves behind his daughter, Lynn Courtney; a beloved granddaughter, Rachel Dalton; and three step-grandchildren, Miranda (Nick) Balas, Christian (fiance, Alex) Courtney and Blaine (Cassy) Courtney. Bill was also blessed with two step-great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Courtney. He will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Chuck Courtney; three brothers, Raymond, Robert and John “Jack” Spurk; and three sisters, Dorothy Naples, Delores “Toots” Vesey and Rose Smith.
Family and friends may pay their respects 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren.
Bill will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
