Wayne W. Rankin Jr. 1948 –2025

NEWTON FALLS — Wayne Wilson Rankin Jr., a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born Jan. 31, 1948, to Wayne and Betty-June Eklund Rankin, Wayne grew up with a deep sense of family and commitment that he carried into every role he held. He shared a beautiful life and unshakable bond with his wife, Sharon Nicastro Rankin — partners in everything, their love and devotion to one another were the heart of their family. He is also survived by his brother, Vic (Bonnie), with whom he shared a lifetime of memories.

Wayne dedicated 35 years to teaching history at Windham Schools, where he also coached football and basketball, impacting generations of students with his knowledge, encouragement and unwavering belief in their potential. His love for teaching was matched only by his devotion to his family and community.

Wayne was a proud father to Chris (Lori), Amy (Ben) and Dan (Katy); a loving grandfather to Chad (Rachael), Lauren, Christopher, Alayna, Brady, Cali and Walker; and great-grandfather to Cooper and River.

His joy was found in family and he never missed a game, performance or milestone — his quiet support and presence meant the world to those he loved.

A resident of Newton Falls for his entire adult life, Wayne found happiness in the little things: a good round of golf, the sounds of the bagpipes, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and watching local sports, especially when they involved his children and grandchildren.

Calling hours will be 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, at Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls. A memorial service will follow.

Friends and family are invited to gather afterward at the Newton Falls VFW for a meal and the sharing of stories and memories that celebrate Wayne’s remarkable life.
