Kathleen C. Sweet 1949-2025

WARREN — Kathleen Connelly Sweet, age 76, died Wednesday, July 16, 2025, of interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension, at her home in Warren.
She was born April 25, 1949, in Warren, to William Matthew and Norma Luster Connelly. She graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1967 and received a BS in elementary education from Kent State University in 1971, an MS in Reading and Supervision from Akron University in 1976, and an MS in religious education from Loyola University through the LIMEX extension program in 2003.
Kathleen taught at Bazetta Elementary School from 1971-1982 and substitute taught in Warren and Trumbull County. She started teaching CCD at St. Mary Church in Warren in 1967, eventually taking on the role of Director of Religious Education there from 1999 to 2017.
She was a voracious reader and also enjoyed gardening and sewing, including helping with alterations for WGH band uniforms for many years. After her retirement in 2017, she volunteered regularly at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, James, whom she married on July 5, 1980; two daughters, Jennifer of Rogers, Arkansas, and Maureen (Daniel Collotte) of Austin, Texas; a son, James of Warren; her sisters, Jane Hlad and Elizabeth Sweet; her brother, William (Carolyn) Connelly; her brother-in-law, Robert “Jerry” Sweet; her stepsister, Therese (Jim) Campbell; her stepbrother, Greg Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Connelly and Norma Connelly Harris; her son, Joseph Michael; her daughter, Bridget Kathleen; her stepfather, Arthur K. Harris Jr.; her brothers-in-law: Jim Hlad, Al, Bill and Mike Sweet, and Jim and Bob Bollas; her sister-in-law, Connie Noonan; her stepbrother, Arthur K. Harris III; and her stepsister, Diane Williams.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish-St. Mary Church, 232 Seneca Ave. NE, Warren, OH 44481. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Interment will follow in All Souls Cemetery.
