Donna J. Alexander 1944-2025

AUSTINTOWN — Donna J. Alexander, 81, formerly of Austintown, died late Friday morning, July 18, 2025, at The Inn at Ironwood nursing center in Canfield.

She was born July 6, 1944, in Youngstown, the daughter of Wilbur and Helen Becker Gromley. Donna was a 1962 graduate of Canfield High School and went on to study business at YSU for a time.

She spent her adult life as a homemaker, raising and caring for her family. She married James M. Alexander on Aug. 29, 1964. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage and many wonderful memories. He preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 2021.

Donna was a member of Austintown Community Church. She enjoyed sailing with her husband on their boat and visiting the Bahamas and Florida Keys. Often, when they were in Florida, they enjoyed spending time with her brother and his family.

She also loved playing cards and shopping with friends and, later in life, painting with her friends at Ironwood. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. Donna was a kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by two children, Marcy (Brian) Alexander Dill of Ashland and Robert Alexander of Youngstown. She also leaves behind a brother, Dale (Marilyn) Gromley of Ormond Beach, Florida; nine grandchildren, Michael (Katelyn), Aaron (Katelyn), Tyler, Robert Jr., Ryan (Allison), Devin, Dylan (Jackie), Jenna and Jax; four great-grandchildren, Alivia, Lucina, Lincoln and Killian; and numerous nieces and nephews with whom she had a close relationship through the years.

Besides her husband, Donna was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call 11 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2025, at Austintown Community Church, 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road, Austintown.

Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church with Pastor Mark Nelson officiating. A light lunch will be served immediately following services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Yellow Brick Place Cancer Support Center, 2959 Canfield Road, Suite 2, Youngstown, OH 44511, in Donna’s memory.
