David N. Lewis 1933-2025

WARREN — David N. Lewis, 92, passed away peacefully into eternal rest, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

He was born March 24, 1933, in Ravenna, the son of the late Ansel M. Lewis and Elsie M. Richards Lewis.

David lived in Warren for the past six years and was formerly of Louisville, Kentucky. He grew up on a small dairy farm in Paris Township, Portage County. He enjoyed farming, 4-H and raising several animals to take to local county fairs. He graduated from Southeast High School in 1951 — the first class to graduate from Southeast as a result of the consolidation of five small county schools. After graduation, David attended Kent State for two years and then joined the Air Force as an aviation cadet. After an honorable discharge, he went back to Kent State and received his bachelor’s degree in business management in 1958.

He married Jane Ann Wright of Newton Falls; they spent 51 years together.

David is survived by two sons, Dale (Tamara) Lewis of Saint Petersburg, Florida, and Dan (Tracie) Lewis of Louisville, Kentucky; one sister, Judy (Jack) Scholl of Fort Myers, Florida; two grandchildren, Emma and Aiden Lewis; and his companion, Millie Vargo of Warren.

David worked in three different companies, in manufacturing and selling automotive after-market products, holding the position of division president over the last 18 years of his career before he retired in 1996.

David enjoyed playing golf, boating, slalom water skiing with his boys and traveling throughout the USA with his family in their customized, old-style vans with CB radios. He enjoyed landscaping and lawn care. He was also active in several volunteer organizations and activities, including the Boy Scouts and the Kiwanis Club. He was an architecture tour guide on the visitor center bus; served on two homeowner association boards (president and landscape); was a member of the “Mended Hearts” organization, visiting and encouraging heart patients in their recovery; and was on various church boards and in related activities as a member of Champion Christian Church.

Funeral services will begin at noon Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, with the Rev. Robert J. Hutson officiating. Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.

David will be laid to rest with full military honors in Hawley Cemetery in Paris Township.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad St., Newton Falls, OH 44444, 330-872-5440. Family and friends may view his obituary online or send condolences at www.jamesfuneralhomeinc.com.
