Betty M. Massaro 1937-2025

NILES — Betty M. Massaro, 87, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, July 13, 2025, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Austintown, following a short illness.

Betty was born Sept. 22, 1937, in Niles, a daughter of John and Goldie Kolozs Pirigyi, and lived all of her life in Niles.

Betty graduated from Niles McKinley High School and was a member of South Side Presbyterian Church and the church women’s auxiliary. She attended beauty school and was a longtime, self-employed beautician. She was also a State Farm Insurance agent for many years.

Betty loved football and tailgated at many Youngstown State University Penguins and Ohio State University Buckeyes football games. She cheered for the Niles McKinley Red Dragons and the Cleveland Browns, right beside her husband.

In her retirement, she loved Friday night fish dinners, trying different restaurants throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania, as well as traveling to many area casinos with her cousins, Steve and Mary Kay Pirigyi, and her dear friend, Joyce D’Errico. Betty was frequently not a casino winner, but had lots of fun losing and laughing.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her sweetheart and loving husband of 73 years, Anthony N. “Chick” Massaro, whom she married June 6, 1959. Betty missed Chick daily since he passed away, Jan. 31, 2025.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Paul A. Massaro, who died Sept. 9, 2004.

Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Debbie Dockstader officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the evening service at the funeral home.
