Verneen E. O’Neil 1940-2025
NILES — Verneen E. O’Neil, 84, passed away peacefully, Thursday morning, June 12, 2025, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born in West Middlesex, Pa., on Oct. 17, 1940, the daughter of Charles and Glenola Cloud Welch.
A devoted homemaker, Verneen found joy in cooking, traveling and going on casino trips with her family. A lifelong animal lover, she shared a deep and genuine bond with every creature she encountered.
She was a member of St. Pope John XXIII Parish-St. Stephen Church.
A woman of remarkable strength and boundless compassion, Verneen was the cornerstone of her family — a steady pillar of love, wisdom and unwavering support. With her quick wit and sharp sense of humor, she had a gift for lifting spirits and bringing light to even the heaviest days.
Her spirit lives on in the way she taught all who knew her to love fiercely, laugh freely and face life with resilience and grace.
She is survived by her daughter, Patti (Rodney) Remsey of Howland; her son-in-law, Erik Brandt, with whom she made her home; her grandchildren, Shannon (Jacob) Danes, Rachel Tarr and Evan Landgraff, Christopher Brandt and Allyssa Micsky, and Rileigh Remsey; and her sister, Jacora Miller.
Verneen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert K. O’Neil, whom she married Sept. 25, 1965, and who passed away Sept. 12, 2004; daughter, Connie Ann Brandt, who passed away May 25, 2025; and a brother, Gary Vinas.
Honoring Verneen’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
She will be buried privately next to her husband in the Girard City Cemetery.
