Mary B. Turvey 1938-2025

HOWLAND — Mary Barbara Remke Turvey, 87, passed away peacefully, Monday, June 2, 2025.

She was born March 3, 1938, in Martins Ferry, a daughter of the late Ronald D. Remke and Kathryn I. McCleery Remke.

Barbara was a 1956 graduate of Martins Ferry High School. After graduation, she began her training as an RN at Baldwin Wallace College and Fairview Park Hospital. On May 2, 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, Alan Turvey, spending 47 wonderful years together before his death in 2006.

Barb worked for many years at Trumbull Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse. She served as a substitute school nurse and volunteered for 12 years with Dr. Yong Lee’s Free Medical Clinic. She worked at Autumn Hills Care Center until her retirement in 2005.

Barb was an active member of Howland Community Church, where she was an elder emeritus, deaconess, a volunteer with Family Promise, a member of the Book Club and involved in a number of other committees.

Barb’s involvement as a homeroom mom in the Bolindale school when her children were young led to the creation of “The Cookie Club,” a wonderful group of friends who had known one another for over 50 years.

Barb was a loving and devoted mother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She cherished memories of trips taken with her husband, Alan. She also loved to read. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Barb is survived by her daughter, Jennifer A. Turvey; grandchildren, Mara A. Turvey and Jennifer L. Price; great-grandchildren, Logan A. Wheelock, Todd B. Burke, Josiah L. Rotan and Greyson A. Turvey-Airwyke; great-great-grandchild, Joelle Leigh Burke; and her sister,Karol C. Edmonds; along with many other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Turvey; son, Ronald A. Turvey; sister, Kathryn G. Kelly; her parents; and great-grandchild, Ty King Cruz.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Howland Community Church Client’s Choice Food Pantry and Free Fellowship Meal.

Friends and family may call 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Howland Community Church, 198 Niles Cortland Rd SE, Warren, OH 44484. Services will begin at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Erica Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling, W.Va.
