Marko Brakovich 1938-2025
CHAMPION — Marko Brakovich, a father to three sons, respected businessman and friend to many, passed away peacefully due to natural causes Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Born July 31, 1938, in Warren, Marko lived an interesting and fulfilling life throughout his 86 years.
The son of the late Marko V. Brakovich and Helen A. Brakovich, Marko grew up in a loving home alongside his sisters, the late Rose Brakovich Shank and Mary Brakovich Steindurf. He was a proud graduate of Champion High School and resided in Champion his entire life.
Marko’s work ethic and talent as a skilled machinist were evident early in his career at Wean Engineering Co. and GM Packard Electric. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Mark’s Trailer Sales in Champion in 1971, a business that thrived under his guidance and became a community staple. Marko’s life was a testament to his friendly nature and his ability to fix anything he put his hands on.
His kindness was felt by all who knew him and his presence was a comfort to those around him. He was a supportive father to his sons, Marko L. Brakovich, Michael D. Brakovich and David C. Brakovich, instilling in them the values of hard work and integrity. His love for his family extended to his grandchildren, Nicole Brakovich Shields, Alexander M. Brakovich and Kathleen M. Brakovich, whom he adored. Marko’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, including Alexander’s children, Xander, Remington and Rowan, with his wife Kristi, and Kathleen’s daughter, Aurora, and granddaughter to Michael and Traci A. Brakovich.
Marko’s interests were as varied as they were enthusiastic. He found joy in boating, water skiing, fishing and snowmobiling, embracing the beauty of nature and the thrill of adventure. He enjoyed attending auctions both for business and pleasure. Occasional travel allowed him to explore unfamiliar places and meet new people, which he enjoyed reflecting on.
Those who knew Marko will remember his friendly smile, his readiness to lend a hand and his unwavering kindness. Marko Brakovich’s life was one well-lived, full of life, laughter and the satisfaction of a job well done.
As we bid farewell to Marko, we celebrate a life that was rich in experiences, friends and family. Marko Brakovich’s story is one of success, not only in business but in the enduring bonds he formed and the lives he influenced. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through his family, his work and the countless lives he touched.
