Louella Skaggs 1939-2025

WARREN — Louella Skaggs, known to everyone as Lou, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side, Monday morning, June 2, 2025, at Lake Vista in Cortland. She was 85 years old.

Lou was born Sept. 7, 1939, in Gad, W.Va., daughter of the late Ephraim and Dortha Roberts. She attended Nicholas County High School in Summersville, W.Va.

On Feb. 7, 1957, she married her husband, Delmer R. Skaggs. They had 56 happy years together before his passing in 2013.

Lou faithfully served her Lord, Jesus Christ. She and Delmer were active members of the First Baptist Church of Howland, involved in various ministries. She taught Sunday school, dedicated many years to serving in the church nursery, played a key role in organizing and preparing mercy meals following church funerals and consistently sent cards of encouragement to remind people of God’s love for them.

Lou found immense joy in preparing meals for her family and treasured Sundays when her family gathered around the table after attending church. She made each meal an event.

For 50 years, Lou worked for Dick Adgate Florist. She began her career by watering plants in the greenhouse and eventually worked her way up to design and then management. When she retired, she was the general manager of the Dick Adgate Florist shops in the area.

Lou will be greatly missed by her daughters, Judy (Larry) Parsons of Canfield, Kimberly (Kevin) Heater of Vienna; grandchildren, Jared (Ashlee) Parsons of Gates Mills, Nathan Parsons of Boardman, Krissie (Ron) Kester of Vienna, Kasey Heater of Lakewood; and her four great-grandchildren, Kevin, Kamron, Kenzie and Kylie Kester. She was a loving wife, mother and proud nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may call between 10 and 11:45 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Howland, 8957 E Market St., Warren, OH 44484. Services will begin at noon with the Rev. Ron Starcher officiating.

Interment will be in Howland Township Cemetery.
