Karen J. Tryon 1971-2025
CORTLAND — Karen Josephine Tryon, 54, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 5, 2025, at her home.
Born Jan. 11, 1971, in San Antonio, Texas, Karen was a proud graduate of Maplewood High School, Class of 1989, and a retired electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 573.
Karen was strong, outspoken and full of love. She had a heart as bold as her personality — unapologetically direct, yet endlessly giving and generous. Her striking blue eyes and radiant soul left a lasting impression. She will be remembered not only for her honesty but also for her deep compassion and fierce loyalty to those she loved.
Karen had a wicked sense of humor and a laugh that could light up an entire room. Her jokes were legendary — sometimes wild, often unexpected and always hilarious. She had a way of making people laugh until they cried.
She shared a close, unbreakable bond with her mother, who was her best friend. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her nieces and nephews, whom she adored. Karen loved spending time with them and always made them feel special. She found joy in the little things — making jewelry, going shopping and, above all, doting on her beloved French bulldog, Pearl. Pearl was her constant companion, her pride and joy — more than a pet, Pearl was like a daughter to her.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Gary Leon Tryon.
She is survived by her loving mother and stepfather, Karen and Gary Herlinger of Cortland; her sisters, Kelly Jo (Tim) Stull and Kimmy (Craig) Wheeler, both of Cortland; her cherished nieces and nephews, Taylor (Michael) Sajnovsky of Warren, Timothy Stull Jr., Mason Wheeler and Maxwell Wheeler, all of Cortland; and her great-niece and great-nephew, Amelia and Michael Sajnovsky of Warren.
Karen’s love, laughter and spirit will be deeply missed by her family. We will never forget her vibrant spirit and unconditional love. She was truly one of a kind.
