James M. Farkas 1937-2025

Born June 1, 1937, in Youngstown, Jim lived a life defined by dedication and craftsmanship. He served his country honorably as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1962 and was recognized as an Atomic Veteran for his service during nuclear testing operations. Following his military service, he built a career at General Motors in Lordstown.

Jim met his wife while skiing — an activity they both enjoyed throughout their life together. A talented woodworker and passionate airplane enthusiast, he spent countless hours crafting intricate furniture pieces and even building an airplane. His love for aviation extended into the skies as a licensed pilot who found joy and freedom in flight. Always curious and determined, Jim embraced new hobbies with enthusiasm and skill.

He shared 56 loving years of marriage with Margaret, building a life rooted in mutual respect and devotion. He was a proud father of two sons, Michael (with wife Shannon and children, Austin and Nick) and David (with wife Megumi), offering steadfast support and affection throughout their lives.

Jim’s sharp wit and infectious sense of humor left lasting impressions on all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Martin, and sister, Mary Lou.

A viewing will be held 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2025, at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home, 4341 N. High St., Columbus. A short service will follow at 1:30 p.m., with burial afterward in Union Cemetery. In honor of Jim’s easy-going spirit, casual attire is encouraged.

James Michael Farkas leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and craftsmanship that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
