Gloria J. Rable 1932–2025
WARREN — Gloria Jean Rable, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, surrounded by her loved ones.
Gloria was born in La Belle, Pa., on June 14, 1932, the third child born to Paul Vlases and Catherine DiCenzi Vlases. She was a proud graduate of Brownsville Area High School in Pennsylvania.
Following graduation, she married her sweetheart, Charles A. Rable of New Salem, Pa., on April 19, 1952. They spent 62 loving years together.
Gloria was a devoted mother to her two children, spent many years working at Murphy’s Mart and was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church.
Gloria loved to bake, travel, play bocce and host game nights with her friends and family. She had a great sense of humor and loved to make use of it. One of her longest-lasting hobbies was crocheting beautiful afghan blankets. She took pride in them and gave them to all her friends, family and local animal shelters. Gloria made afghans for every occasion — birthdays, weddings, baby showers — and they will forever be a cherished piece of her that everyone who loved her will hold dear.
Above all else, Gloria loved being an involved grandmother and great-grandmother. Better known as “Mimi,” “Glo” or “Glo-ma,” she was deeply cherished and appreciated by them.
Gloria was a captivating storyteller, a lover of all dogs and took immense pride in sharing her birthday with Flag Day. She was always the most stylish in the room, sporting her red hair and leopard print jackets until the day she passed. She was a one-of-a-kind woman who always said the secret to a long life was to “drink red wine and wear high heels.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Vlases and Catherine DiCenzi Vlases; siblings, Helen, Orlando and Rosalie; her husband, Charles Rable; and her son, Gary Rable.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Cindy (Gary) Sarko of Cortland; daughter-in-law, Rossana (Jeff) Johnson of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; sister, Loretta (Mike) Adams; grandchildren, Alyssa (Tyler) Yaple of Dublin, Tom (Arielle) Sarko of Scottsdale, Arizona, Brock (Maria) Sarko of Pickerington, Jake (Erin) Rable of St. Paul, Minnesota, Luke (Emily) Rable of South St. Paul, Minnesota, and Samuel Johnson of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; and great-grandchildren, Wym Yaple, Andi Yaple and Roman Rable.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to her dear neighbors in Spring Run for their friendship, to her care team at Shepherd of the Valley for their devoted effort, and the staff at The OSU Wexner Medical Center for their grace and support.
The family is holding a private celebration of life for Gloria.
