Larry Harkleroad 1948-2025

He was born on April 18, 1948, in Youngstown, to the late Homer and Helen Riggle Harkleroad.

Larry served the country in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He maintained the combat aircraft as an electronic countermeasure specialist. A little over a year after his discharge, he married Joy C. Marburger.

Larry graduated from Faith Baptist Bible College in 1976. He was a career custodian at Niles McKinley High School until his retirement in 2017. Larry received Jesus Christ as his Savior and his service for the Lord permeated his life. He loved to study the Bible and to read. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Niles, serving as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He taught for many years, writing out every lesson carefully and delivering Biblical truth faithfully.

Larry put the capital “H” on Handyman. He had the gift of reasoning out problems and fixing all kinds of things. He was a loving husband and a great dad, whose memories will be held for life. In addition to Larry’s parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Harkleroad and Homer Lee Harkleroad.

Larry is survived by his dear wife of over 53 years, Joy (Marburger) Harkleroad; his sons, David (Laura) Harkleroad and Michael (Rachael) Harkleroad; his grandchildren, Nathan, Elizabeth and Timothy; his twin sister, Lynette Kane; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 30, at First Baptist Church, 26 E. Church St., Niles, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Jonathan Schuler officiating.

Interment will be at the Niles Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to First Baptist Church. Flowers may be delivered to the church from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 30.
