Samuel D. Cook 1954-2025
WARREN — Samuel D. Cook, 71, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
He was born April 5, 1954, in Abingdon, Virginia, the son of the late Samuel Ernest and the late Celia Evelyn Thomas Cook.
Samuel was employed as a crane operator at Thomas Steel, now Tata Steel, for 32 years, retiring in 2009. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and his slogan was always “Semper-Fi.”
He attended a weekly Bible study with his sister. Sam’s morning routine was always eating toast and drinking coffee with his pets while doing crossword puzzles. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes fan and enjoyed classic cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Sam was devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very outgoing, had an array of quirky friends and never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Sharon Cook of Warren; children, Julie Cook, formerly Sinkuc of Pennsylvania, Michael Samuel (Kristen) Cook of North Carolina, Jonathan Thomas Cook of Pennsylvania, Sara Caspary, Megan Danko, Joseph Danko, Xyari Williams, and Jamie (Craig) Rolland; sister, Doris Lynn (Wayne) Davies; grandchildren, Jesse (Ali) Jr., Haley, Journey, Rylee, Jace, Jiovanni, Jaida, Juliet, Trenton, Kami, Jaxtyn, Blaize, Jozie, Brantley, Nash and one grandchild on the way; and special aunt, Mary Callahan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jesse Chitwood Sr.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Garry L. Hennessey will officiate.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., prior to the services on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Sam requested that everyone in attendance dress comfortably. Military, sports or concert attire are welcome.
