John, 61, was born Nov. 10, 1963, in Warren, to Jean-Marie Ann Towle Schlecht and John Stephen Schlecht MD.

A 1982 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, John attended the New Castle School of Trades and worked as an independent contractor installing security alarm systems. John could master any trade and often amazed his family and friends with his talent for creating and fixing things.

John lived his adult years in Andover, where he raised his two sons, who were the greatest joy of his life. John loved Pymatuning Lake and delighted in long talks and telling stories around evening campfires with family and friends. He had a knack for finding and having fun and enjoyed a wide variety of pursuits and adventures.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Stephen MD and Jean-Marie Ann Schlecht. He leaves behind his sons, John Trayer and Stephen Patrick of Jefferson; his sisters, Kathy of Medfield, Massachusetts, Sandy of Warren and Beth (Robert) Pearson of Peoria, Arizona. He also leaves behind his dearly loved nephews, Matthew and Joshua Pearson, and his niece, Amy Matthew. He will be greatly missed by his loving girlfriend, Cheryl Yoder of Leavittsburg, and her children, Tyler Lewis, Greg Bogard (fiancee, Nicole) and Samantha Bograd (fiance, Ely); and grandchildren, Mila, Autumn and Brooklyn, who called him “Papa John.”

He also leaves behind his former wife and mother of his children, Gloria Schlecht of Jefferson.

His gentle, kind and generous nature endeared him to a host of friends and he was always ready to help a neighbor in need. Quick to love others, he was deeply loved in return. His faith in God sustained him in difficult times and he was a loyal friend who always tried to believe in the goodness of others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
