David A. Lynn 1936-2025

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — David Ayers Lynn passed away peacefully at Penick Village in Southern Pines on Monday, April 7, 2025.

David was born on May 17, 1936, in Warren, as the third child of Holmes Wasson and Charlene Davies Lynn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Davies Lynn; and his sister, Jenny Lynn Alsop.

In 1961, David married Dorothy Elizabeth Albright, and they shared 64 wonderful years together.

David is survived by his wife Dottie and their four children, Carelyn (Gary) Monroe of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, William (Kristi) Lynn of Redmond, Washington, Christopher (Cindy) Lynn of Cincinnati and Suzanne (David) Ninke of Golden, Colorado. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, Andrew and Jeffrey Monroe, David and Christopher Lynn, John, Sarah and Ryan Lynn, and Elizabeth and Hannah Ninke.

David was a graduate of Culver Military Academy and University School in Shaker Heights. He went on to earn a business degree from Lehigh University in 1958 before attending Officer Candidate School of the U.S. Navy in 1959. Later in his career, he furthered his education by graduating from the Harvard Advanced Management Program in 1979.

He proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy as an Ensign and later as a Lieutenant JG in the Navy Security Group. He served sea duty in the North China Sea and was also stationed in the Philippines, after which he served assignments in Washington, D.C.

Following his military service, David built a successful career with GATX Corporation from 1962 to 1983. He began in sales for the Fuller Division and later served as President of the Pollock subsidiary and then Director of International Subsidiaries, overseeing and regularly traveling to operations located around the globe. From 1984 to 2003, he served as President of The Taylor-Winfield Corporation in Warren and Brookfield.

David was actively involved in the community and many industry organizations, serving in many leadership positions. He served as President of his fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha and later President of his Alumni Chapter. He also held leadership positions for several industry associations and chambers of commerce in Northeast Ohio. He also served on the board for a local bank, the Warren Chamber Orchestra and local chapter of the Boy Scouts. He served as President of Trumbull Country Club, where he loved to golf and socialize. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Warren, where he served on the Vestry and as the President of the Christ Church Foundation.

After retiring from Taylor-Winfield Corporation in 2003, David and Dottie moved from Warren, Ohio, to Pinehurst, North Carolina. David was an avid golfer and became a member of the Pinewild Country Club. He and Dottie also joined Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines.

Continuing with his legacy of service, David volunteered for many years at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, driving the courtesy van for patients and visitors.

David will be remembered for his strong values and hard work, his sense of humor, and his speed in everything he did (driving included). He will also be remembered for his faith in God and his appreciation and gratitude for all those who loved and supported him.

David’s legacy of dedication and love will be cherished by all who knew him. He was an enduring example of a life well-lived. May his memory bring comfort to his family and friends.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at The Penick Village Chapel.
