Barbara J. Holk 1946-2024
Barbara J. Holk
SOUTHINGTON — Barbara Jean Holk, age 78, entered into eternal rest, Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at St Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
She was born in Garrison, Pa., on Jan. 18, 1946, a daughter of the late Harry E. and Samantha G. Williams Jones.
A 1963 graduate of Cameron High School in West Virginia, she spent most of her adult life as a homemaker doing what she loved, taking care of her family who were her entire world. On July 10, 1965, she married the love of her life, William Harry Holk II. Together they lived in Southington for the last 55 years. Barbara was a smart, yet simple, country girl with a pure, non-judgmental heart who never needed much, never asked for anything and did anything she could for others.
She didn’t like modern technology and never had to “ask Siri” anything, because Barbara knew everything she needed to know without Google and loved to share her knowledge with others. She loved her landline phone and wouldn’t use her cell phone. She was always the navigator on family trips with the skill of reading paper maps. She was Methodist by faith and taught her son’s “bad words” like “horse feathers” and “son of a beanstalk.” Her favorite color was purple. Barbara was an avid gardener, who loved to mow grass, take care of her flowers and plants and feed the birds. She was happiest at home cooking, canning and baking – all while singing at the top of her lungs. She had a great sense of humor and was always checking in on those she loved. Barbara loved classic movies – her favorite being “Gone with the Wind.”
Precious memories of Barbara live on with her husband of 59 years, William; two sons, Bryon (Angie) Holk of Bristolville and Bradley Holk of Southington; a daughter-in-law, Heidi Holk of Southington; four grandchildren, Crystal Holk of Bellingham, Washington, Brandon W. Holk of Southington, Talon Holk of Burghill and Briana Lawn of Howland; two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Chloe Lawn; and two sisters Judy Stuart of Prospect, Tennessee, and Linda Richman of Warren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William H. Holk III, on Aug. 21, 2022.
Friends will be received from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, in Southington Reformed Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483, 330-394-6200. Dedicated to serving your loved ones. This obituary may be viewed and condolences sent to www.statonborowskifuneralhome.com.
