Tommy D. Thompson 1949-2024

CORTLAND — Tommy D. Thompson, 75, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1949, in Warren, to the late Calvin “Wimpy” D. and Maxine J. Kenney Thompson.

He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He married his wife, Bobbi, on Oct. 5, 2013, spending 26 wonderful years together. He started working at Lordstown GM Assembly plant in 1970 and retired as a booth cleaner after 36 years in 2006.

He was a member of the Southington VFW Post from 1990 to 1996.

He served his country proudly during the Vietnam War as a veteran of the United States Marines from 1968 to 1970. He was wounded in the line of duty and was given an honorable discharge.

He enjoyed NASCAR, rooting for any Ford to win and vacationing to the ocean and the East Coast where he could fly large kites. He trained border collies in their agility and loved putting together 1,000-piece puzzles. He also collected stamps, old coins and pocket knives, and loved cooking.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Phyllis Gregory, Cathy D’Vengencie and Kenneth L. Kistler.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbi Thompson; children, Tonya Dasch of Oklahoma, Jeanette (Jay) Willoughby of Ohio, Roxanne Phillips of Oklahoma, and Leana (Larry) Knight, Keith (Yulonda) Thompson, and LeAnn Thompson, all of Ohio; stepson, Steven (Molly) Cravalho, also of Ohio; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hope Center of Warren.

Calling hours will be from 8 to 10 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at Lane Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel.

Interment will be held in Crown Hill Burial Park.
