Matthew F. Martin 1971- 2024

GRANGER, Ind. — Matthew F. Martin, 52, passed away of natural causes, Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024.

He was born Dec. 12, 1971, in Warren, to Frank and Diana Martin.

Matt attended Lakeview High School in Cortland, Class of 1990. He was a proud Eagle Scout and received his industrial engineering degree from Youngstown State University in 1994.

Matt worked at Hubbell-Raco in South Bend, Indiana. He moved through various engineering roles to become vice president of operations for Hubbell Commercial / Industrial divisions. He then moved to the position of director of operations at Reschcor, where he led a team of engineers, quality and warehouse experts, producing plastic extrusion products. He poured his heart into everything he did and appreciated all those who worked alongside him.

Matt loved being a big brother to his sister, Jenny, and later to two age-gap siblings, who looked up to him and copied his life choices.

Matt became a stepfather at a young age and took on a hard-headed child with open arms, patience and love. He continued with this same passion as a grandfather (the best Papa) later in life.

From the time he was a child, he loved cars and space and carried that love into adulthood. Matt was an avid concertgoer and preferred to listen to it live with loved ones. Matt also had a passion for traveling and enjoyed trips to Iceland for his 50th to take photos of the Aurora lights and to SpaceX Starbase in Texas, where he took a helicopter trip around the area.

Matt’s love of cars never wavered. He excitedly acquired his first Tesla, a Model S, and later was in the first rounds to acquire a Tesla Foundation Cybertruck. He enjoyed taking it on family excursions, off-roading and attending Tesla events.

His most profound love has always been his family, including his beloved dog, Miss Chatty. He was a devoted friend and neighbor. He was everyone’s support system — truly selfless, giving, compassionate, loving and willing to help.

Matt’s personality was larger than life and he was taken too soon. He will be forever loved and missed.

Matt is survived by his fiance, Jamian Oleson, and her children, Gavin, Gracie and Evelyn Oleson; stepdaughter, Fallon Penrod; grandchildren, Klarke and Rowan Penrod; his parents, Frank and Diana Martin; brother, Ethan (Brittany) Martin; sister, Halley (Brian) Cole; nieces, Alexis and Aurora Cole; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Martin; maternal grandparents, William and Mariam Downing; paternal grandparents, Frank and Mildred Marlen Martin; uncles, Bill Downing and Terry Downing; and aunt, Barbra Downing.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Indiana and Ohio.
