John Macrinos 1927-2024
WARREN — John Macrinos, 97, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 27, 2024, surrounded by his family.
John was born on the Greek island of Chios on Sept. 20, 1927, a son of Stephan and Eugenia Psarelli Macrinos. He loved to tell of working with his father in harbors and shipyards and sailing to neighboring islands to sell goods.
In the wake of World War II, John left Greece, at the age of 17, and sailed the world as a Merchant Marine before settling in Brooklyn, New York. He later came to Warren where he began a career in the area’s steel mills that would last for 40 years.
In Warren, he also met the woman with whom he would spend nearly six-and-a-half decades; John and Gigi married at St. Demetrios Orthodox Church in 1951. Together, they built a family and a life full of love, adventure, laughs, great food and fond memories.
John was a meticulous contractor, completing many house projects for family and friends. He enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino and was a kind, generous and funny man. Most of all, he loved and cherished his family and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
John will always be remembered by his children, Jeannie (James) Andamasaris of Howland, with whom John made his home, Stephen “Tom” Macrinos of Warren and Nicholas (Tracey) Macrinos of Florida; grandchildren, Tom (Heather) Andamasaris, Jeanette Andamasaris (Nick Brinan), John Andamasaris, Elizabeth (Kyle) Sersich, Jonathan Macrinos, J.R. (Melissa) Macrinos and Stephanie Macrinos (Garrett Graber); great-grandchildren, Malina, Evangelene, Gavin, Saris, Cecelia, John and Dax; sister, Maria Copoulos of Long Island; sister-in-law, Kay Mahinis of Florida; dear friends and caregivers, Marci Spencer and Twila Zandarski; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by the love of his life for 63 years, Gramate “Gigi” Graham Macrinos; brothers, Tony and Gus; and sister, Stella Karavalas.
