Edward A. Fife Sr. 1959-2024

NEWTON FALLS — Edward A. Fife Sr., 65, passed away peacefully into eternal rest, Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at the Cortland Healthcare Center in Cortland.

He was born on April 28, 1959, in Warren, the son of the late Eugene Fife Sr. and Lula B. Roach Fife.

Ed had lived in Newton Falls since 1985 and was formerly of Lordstown, where he graduated from Lordstown High School in the Class of 1978. He then married the love of his life, Michele Renee Allen on June 11, 1988; and they have enjoyed the past 36 years of marriage together. Ed was self-employed for most of his life starting as owner and operator of Fife’s Auto Wrecking, his family business, for 15 years. He was a skilled heavy equipment operator and certified welder and mechanic.

He took on many jobs “for the man” during his lifetime, but there were only two that truly had meaning to him: he was on the road with BF Goodrich racing in the early 1980s and was a welder for Glow Smith Industries in 1997. In 2001, Ed went to AMI in Daytona, Florida, to continue his education, getting certified in Marine mechanics.

For the past 20 years, his self-employment has been in welding for Gilanyi Manufacturing, Outdrive and boat motor repairs and working alongside his wife doing maintenance work at TDSI in Lordstown.

Ed was a member of the VFW Post 1090 in Warren. In his youth, he loved playing basketball and was a track star at Lordstown High School, where he had long-standing records and earned the nickname “Crazy Legs.” He loved shooting pool. He was “old school,” believing in the barter system and people helping people. He was always there for others. He liked building and fixing things, and most of all he loved spending time with his family. He loved being a grandfather … and it suited him.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and his first-born granddaughter, his beloved, Alayna Bretsik.

He is survived by his wife, Michele R. Fife of Newton Falls; one daughter, Lyndsay Fife and her boyfriend, Justin Bretsik of Newton Falls; one son, Edward A. Fife Jr. and his girlfriend, Julia Sustak of Lordstown; one brother, Eugene Fife Jr. of Lordstown; and three grandchildren, Remi, Bram and Mason.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at the James Funeral Home, Newton Falls, with Pastor Jennifer Dorn officiating.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service.

He will be laid to rest in Lordstown Cemetery.
