Eugene R. Foster 1937-2024
NILES — Eugene R. “Gene” Foster, 87, passed away peacefully at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the residence, following a short illness.
Gene was born in Niles on Feb. 23, 1937, the son of John B. “Jumbo” and Pearl Mae Garvin Foster and has lived in Niles his entire life.
Gene attended local schools and retired in 2000 from Copperweld Steel Company as a furnace helper following many years of faithful service. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandkids and was an avid supporter of their baseball and football games. Gene enjoyed working in his garden, sitting on his bench in the sun and caring for his special companion grandson dog, “Sal.”
Gene is survived by two daughters, Darla Leedy and Joyce Miller, both of Niles; sister, Edith (Jim) Skillman of Lordstown; brother, John (Arlene) Foster of Tennessee; three grandsons, Charles (Kristina) Miller of Niles, Christopher (Emily) Leedy of Long Valley, New Jersey, and Joe (Amanda) Miller of Mineral Ridge; four great-grandchildren, Grant, Cameron, Remi and Griffin; and many nieces and nephews.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Jordan Foster, whom he married Feb. 18, 1960; and she passed away on July 31, 2023; six brothers, Luther Foster, Thomas Foster, Doc Foster, James Foster Sr., Jackie Foster and Pete Scott; and two sisters, Charlene Ramer and Hazel Cox.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Friday, June 21, 2024, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Ron Blakeman from the Mineral Ridge Church of Christ officiating. Calling hours will be one hour before the services on Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
