Joseph J. Rich 1941-2023
NILES — Joseph J. Rich, 82, of Niles, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House.
He was born June 24, 1941, in Youngstown, the son of Arthur and Mary Chance Rich.
Joe was a 1959 graduate of McDonald High School and a graduate of Ohio Business College, with a degree in accounting.
He was employed at General Motors Lordstown, General Motors Oklahoma City, the Bowling Green Kentucky Corvette plant, and the GM Tech Center (Warren, Mich.), in the accounting/engineering department, for 37 years, retiring in 2003. He then worked part-time for Evergreen health care, as a patient transport, after his retirement.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles. He enjoyed everything cars, was an avid Cleveland sports and OSU Buckeyes fan, and enjoyed drinking coffee with his buddies.
His wife, Carole Newhouse Rich, whom he married Nov. 2, 1963, died Dec. 23, 2020.
He will be deeply missed by three sons, Joseph M. Rich and his wife, Karen of Girard, Mark Rich and his wife, Fanny of Niles, and Shawn Rich and his wife, Patti of Niles; a sister, Shirley Delon and her husband, Ed of McDonald; and eight grandchildren, Natalie, Tanner, Tyler, Leah, Gavin, Noah, Chad and Blair.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Rich.
Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles, preceded by a 10:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
