YSU men, women, sweep Horizon League track and field championships

The Youngstown State men’s and women’s track and field teams continued their recent run of dominance at the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend in Rochester, Michigan, as both teams combined to sweep the men’s and women’s team titles.
The men earned their seventh straight Horizon League championship, while the women captured their 17th Horizon League title overall. The sweep also helped YSU clinch the rare double triple crown, as the men’s and women’s teams completed the trifecta for the 2025-2026 season, winning the cross country, indoor track and outdoor track championships.
The men finished with 264 points while Purdue Fort Wayne (129.5) and Milwaukee (121.5) finished second and third. The Penguins won the title by 134.5 points.
The women finished with 172 points to hold off Milwaukee, which were just behind with 163.5 points. YSU started the day down 13 points after seven events. After nine complete competitions, YSU trailed by 14.5. Eventually the Penguins went in front, but a strong effort by the Panthers in the triple jump put them ahead 157.5 to 150.
For the men’s team, Brayden Green won the triple jump, Micah Mitchell won the 110m hurdles, Lukas Lang won the pole vault, Levi Glassmeyer won the hammer throw and Trenton Shutters won the 800m. The Penguins also took first in the 4x100m relay.
Patrick Burgos took second in the 5,000m, Mitchell was second in the 400m hurdles and Jak Rovan and Isaiah Barker shared second in the high jump.
For the women, McKinley Fielding earned her first career league title in the 1,500m, taking the race by more than seven seconds, while becoming the second runner in school history to win the event. Fielding also finished second in the 5,000m
Also, Tori Atkins was second in the 400m and Gabbi Selman was runner up in the pole vault.
The Penguins scored 18 points in the relay races, which helped lift them to the title. YSU won the 4x100m and took second in the 4x400m.
