Roger L. Bartscher 1933-2023
 
								GIRARD — Roger “Rog” Louis Bartscher, 89, departed this life Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at his residence.
He was born June 15, 1933, to Harvey Edward and Agnes Menchen Bartscher, in Cincinnati, and moved to California as a child. He returned to Cincinnati with his mother and sister, working to support his family before joining the Air Force in 1953.
He was a proud veteran of the Korean War and gained the rank of staff sergeant. After leaving active duty, he went into the Air Force Reserve. He learned electric work from the New Castle School of Trades and started working at General Motors Lordstown in 1967, where he was in skilled trades as a WEMR. He retired after 38 years in 2005.
Involved in the community, Roger was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Niles, Niles McKinley Masons Lodge 794, Ali Baba Grotto in Warren, Vienna Fish and Game, Elks and the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered at the VA Center on Belmont Avenue, bringing donuts and coffee for his fellow veterans on Friday mornings.
Roger was a talented artist. As a child, he won a drawing contest for animation-style artwork. Later in life, he was an avid photographer and member of several photo clubs, including the Warren Camera Club. He enjoyed woodworking and stained glass making. He was a hunter, fisherman and nature lover, and he loved watching the wildlife in his backyard, especially the hummingbirds. He also enjoyed travel, target shooting and playing cards with his friends.
He was always available to help his friends and family if they needed anything. He loved to go dancing on weekends with his beloved wife, RoseMarie Dando Bartscher, whom he married May 7, 1955. Rog and Roe, as they were affectionately called, were a fun, dynamic couple with an active social life.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Brian (Sheila) Bartscher of Mineral Ridge, Karen (Robert) English of Niles; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott) Yungen, Melissa (Travis Smith) Bartscher, Mathew (Crystal Addington) English, Hailey (Sam Hamley) Dando, Bethany (Alex) Sava and Angelique Bartscher; 12 great-grandchildren; his dear friend and close companion, Elisabeth (Lisa) Scott; his siblings, MaryAnne (Albert) Broughton of Harrison, Ohio, Rita Brown, Michael (Rosanne) Dando, Deborah (Joseph) Barber; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, RoseMarie, and his parents, Harvey and Agnes.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023, at the Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles, where Masonic Services will be held at 6:45 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the funeral home, followed by procession and burial in Greenhaven Cemetery in Canfield.
