James R. Ambrose 1952-2020

WARREN — James (Jim) Richard Ambrose passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at the age of 68 from an extended illness.

Jim was born on Sept. 28, 1952, in Warren, to David J. and Betty Powell Ambrose.

One thing that made his spirit whole was his love and friendship with his wife of 47 years, Laurie Barna Ambrose, who has been by his side since they were teenagers, and his children: daughter, Brandi Ambrose (Brian Racine) of Chicago, Ill., and his son, Todd James Ambrose (Melany Ambrose) of Canfield.

Jim also leaves behind two siblings, David Ambrose of Warren and Nancy Ambrose of Livingston, Mont., each of whom Jim has always looked up to; and three grandchildren, Madelynn Ambrose (17), Liam Racine (11) and Tillie Racine (6) who affectionately called him “their Pupa.”

Jim started his career as a union pipefitter in Warren as a member of UA Local 225 and retired from UA Local 396 in Youngstown after 30 years, where he made many great friendships.

Jim was many things in his one life: a skilled tradesman, former volunteer firefighter, off road motorcycle racer, patented inventor, Freemason, a talented whittler and woodworker, and master builder — whom, with the help of his friends and late father-in-law Gerald Barna, built the home where he lived out the last of his days.

“Our family is following his wishes; we will refrain from having a formal memorial service but rather will honor him privately. Jim was a man who treasured his family. He will be missed and loved as a husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. If you knew Jim, please remember him in your own unique way.”

Together, Laurie and Jim never met a stray animal they didn’t accept or love unconditionally. Jim valued and cared for a long line of furry companions who shared his love and affection.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.
