Russell A. Kay 1951-2019

POWAY, Calif. — Russell A. Kay, 68, formerly of Girard, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, in Poway, Calif.

Russ was born Sept. 27, 1951, in Youngstown, the son of Albert and Wanda Humble Kay. He graduated from Girard High School in 1970 and attended Youngstown State University. Russ moved to California and worked as a machinist for 35 years.He retired from General Atomics after 23 years in September 2019.

Russ was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan, as well as the Ohio State University. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing in Mexico, attending spring training games in Arizona and was an avid reader.

Russ was the youngest of six children and he will be sadly missed and always remembered by his family, including siblings James (Bev), John (Theresa) of Girard, Thomas (Anna Kay) of El Mirage, Ariz., and Susan (Edward) Ardale of Austintown; and his sister-in-law, Pat Kay of Houston. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and – nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dick.

The family would like to thank Gateway Gardens in Poway, Calif. and also Elizabeth Hospice for their care and compassion. Tom and Kay would like to thank their children Dawn, Kelly, Chrissi, and Paul for all of their support for their uncle and for them.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Elizabeth Hospice, 500 La Terraza Blvd. Suite 130, Escondido, CA 92025 or to the Gateway Gardens Employee Appreciation Fund, (GEAF) 12750 Gateway Park Road, Poway, CA 92064 will be appreciated.

A celebration of Russ’ life will be held at a later date in California.
