Robert E. Brown

WARREN – Robert E. Brown, 92, of Warren, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at Autumn Hills Nursing home in Niles.

Robert was born Oct. 21, 1923, in Youngstown, the son of the late Edgar N. and Margaret Allen Brown.

Robert was a 1942 graduate of Canfield High School. He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country during WWII; he worked as an aircraft mechanic on the B-17 and B-29 bombers. He worked as a millwright, working his way up to an engineer at Packard Electric over the course of 30 years.

Bob had a heart of gold and helping people was his true passion. In 1991 he won the Community Star Award of Warren for all the acts of kindness and volunteer work he did in his community. He volunteered as an adviser for the Soap Box Derby and spent four years conducting races at Braceville; he spent 20 years volunteering for the Red Cross and even received the Kathleen Harris Award for his outstanding performance. This is the highest award the Red Cross gives out. Bob was the construction coordinator for Habitat for Humanity for 13 years. He also gave his time at the SCOPE headquarters by completing low income family and retiree tax returns.

He leaves behind his only son, Robert Brown, and his longtime companion, Karen Casey, both of Warren; as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him deeply.

Beside his parents, Robert was preceded in death by the love of his live, his wife of 45 years, Ruth E. Lewis Brown. They were married on May 25, 1953, and Ruth died on Oct. 15, 1998. Robert was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Tyrrell.

The family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Hills Nursing Homes and Harbor Light Hospice for all the love and attention given to Robert in his time of need.

Family and friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, with services held at 4 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Drive NE, Warren, OH 44484.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the American Red Cross, 3530 Belmont Ave. #7, Youngstown, OH 44505, or to Harbor Light Hospice, 4531 Belmont Ave. # 9, Youngstown, OH 44505.
