John L. Womer

HOWLAND – John Lewis Womer, 79, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at the Hospice House in Poland with his loved ones by his side.

He was born July 23, 1936, in New Castle, Pa., the son of the late Louis and Lois White Womer.

John retired from WCI Steel in 1997 and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1955 to 1959. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Warren, where he served as a trustee, and a member of the Twosum Forum and Kirk Club. He also was a member of the Vienna Fish and Game Club and the Cortland Conservation Club.

John enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden and taking photos, but most of all he loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Kay Campbell Womer; daughters, Lori (Joe) Sylvester, Karen (Tim) Sanders and Holly (Scott) Lane; grandchildren, Kristen (Sam) Fries, Kimberly Sylvester, Jason (Beth) Palette, Michael Sanders, Jacob Lane, Steven (Arianna) Lane and Abbey Lane; and one great-granddaughter, Veronica Jo Fries; one sister, Jeri Harris; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lois Womer; one grandson, Shaun Palette; and one sister, Doris Groves.

Calling hours will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave., Warren, OH 44483. Funeral services will follow calling hours beginning at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Rusty Cowden officiating.
