Dr. C.K. Brandeberry 1928-2013
ASHTABULA – Dr. C.K. Brandeberry, D.O., 85, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at his home.
Doc, as he was affectionately known, was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Bloomdale, the son of Clyde and Hildred Brandeberry.
He was a graduate of Bloomdale High School, completed his undergraduate studies at Bowling Green University and received his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Mo.
Upon graduation, he completed his internship at the Green Cross Hospital in Warren. He was one of the founders of Warren General Hospital in Warren and faithfully served his community as a family practitioner for more than 50 years. For those who could not come to see Doc, he went to see them.
Doc was a charter member of the Rock Creek Rotary Club and was a faithful Rotarian for more than 50 years. He received several awards for his Rotarian service, including the Paul Harris Fellow award. For more than 25 years, Doc loved his roll as physician for the Grand Valley Mustang Football team and was initial inductee to the Grand Valley Athletic Hall of Fame.
Doc was named 1985 Grand Valley Citizen of the Year, sat on the board of directors for the Country Neighbor Program and was a member of the Grand Valley Chamber of Commerce. Doc also was a member of Rock Creek United Methodist Church, where he taught Bible classes for many years.
Doc’s special interests were reading, bowling, the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavaliers, fishing, gardening and classical music.
Doc first and foremost loved his family and spent as much time with them as his busy schedule would allow, and he will be sadly missed.
Doc will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Louise; his children, Kent, Heather and Todd; his brother, Tom; his sister, Sara; his five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Hildred; and his grandson, Thomas Brandeberry.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Rock Creek United Methodist Church.
Private burial will follow in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.
