Flag Day Fest set

WEATHERSFIELD — The fourth annual Weathersfield Flag Day Festival will be Thursday to Sunday at the community park and gazebo off state Route 46 at the former middle school site. Township Fiscal Officer Fred Bobovnyk said the event has grown each year and new for 2017 will be helicopter rides above the festival. School district finances strong

McDONALD — The financial position of the McDonald Local School District over the next five years is “very healthy,” according to the district’s top financial officer. “We are in really good shape right now,” said Treasurer Bill Johnson. “We have a really nice cash carryover balance.” The balances are contained in the district’s latest five-year forecast, which estimates there will be a $4.6 million surplus at the end of the year. HOWLAND — The Trumbull County Chapter of the National Association of Wolves Club recently awarded $24,000 in scholarships to eight Trumbull County High School seniors. Each student was presented $3,000 scholarships each at the annual dinner held at Leo’s Ristorante. David Leo, scholarship chairman, said the Wolves is an Italian professional organization tracing its ideals of learning, discovery and public service to the founding of ancient Rome. MVSD worker training hours under investigation

WEATHERSFIELD — The Mahoning Valley Sanitary District is once again under fire as employee training hours are being investigated. An internal investigation mandated by the MVSD Board found certain discrepancies in the reporting of contact hours at the MVSD, which were reported to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Any employees the investigation finds as not having met the required contact hours will be required to immediately retake courses to meet the required contact hours, regardless of whether those employees have certificates saying the classes had taken place on a ...
