NILES — Lightning may have delayed the All-American Conference White Tier contest between Niles and Lakeview Friday night, but it was Niles that brought the thunder. The Red Dragons burned Lakeview by the score of 48-7 to get its first win of the season. Niles (1-4, 1-2) controlled the game in every facet. Tires set to be collected curbside

NILES — The city will hold curbside tire pickup today through Friday with tires to be placed at curbside with pickup 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. The schedule is 1st Ward today, 2nd Ward Tuesday, 3rd Ward Wednesday, 4th Ward Thursday and all wards Friday. Service Director Anthony Flarey said there is a limit of 10 tires per household. Rims are also accepted.

Howland girls, Niles boys win cross country races

CUYAHOGA FALLS — The Howland girls cross country team won its second invitational title this season as the Tigers took first in Saturday’s Pat Ritchie Cross Country Invitational. The Tigers won the meet held at Walsh Jesuit High School by holding off Hawken in the Division II-III race, 75-78. Howland won the Oscar Grant Invitational and took second to Woodridge at the Billy Goat Challenge earlier this season. CHAMPION — The Wing-T offense has been synonymous with the McDonald football program over the years. Back when Dan Williams was a player, the Blue Devils ran a Wing-T offense, and he continued to deploy that system when he took over the program 19 years ago.
