Howland girls, Niles boys win cross country races
CUYAHOGA FALLS — The Howland girls cross country team won its second invitational title this season as the Tigers took first in Saturday’s Pat Ritchie Cross Country Invitational.
The Tigers won the meet held at Walsh Jesuit High School by holding off Hawken in the Division II-III race, 75-78.
Howland won the Oscar Grant Invitational and took second to Woodridge at the Billy Goat Challenge earlier this season.
Jenna Craigo and Molly Yasnowski took seventh and eighth, respectively, in times of 20:55 and 20:58, to lead the Tigers on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Niles boys dominated the East Palestine Rotary Invitational by distancing themselves from host East Palestine, 31 to 52, on Saturday.
Micah Curry won the boys individual title in 17:54.7, while Hailey Zelinsky took the girls individual title in 21:30.7.
Maplewood’s girls took fifth in the Pat Ritchie D-II-III race with 117 points, led by Marissa Ventura’s 14th-place finish (1:20). The McDonald girls took sixth with 119 points, led by Anna Guerra’s third-place finish (20:14).
McDonald’s boys was third in its race with 71 points, led by Brody Rupe’s fourth-place finish (17:15).
TIFFIN CARNIVAL: TIFFIN — Badger’s Miranda Stanhope second in the Division III girls varsity race at the Tiffin Carnival in a time of 18:20.9. The Badger girls took 12th with 489 points, while Pymatuning Valley was 20th with 624. Lordstown’s Jessica Wilk was 15th in a time of 20:02.4. The Red Devils finished 36th with 971 points.
Garfield’s Tyler Klouda was fourth in the Division II boys race in a time of 16:05.9. The G-Men took 14th with 499 points.
PV’s Nick Sapp took 17th in the Division III-B varsity race in 18:28.5. The Lakers took 13th with 389 points. Lordstown’s boys was 31st with 796.
BOARDMAN TAKES SIXTH: WOOSTER — The Boardman Spartans took sixth in the boys race of the Wooster Invitational with 140 points.
Sophomore Frank Bero led the Spartans with a ninth-place finish in a time of 16:46.8.
