Weathersfield names new school board member

WEATHERSFIELD — The Board of Education has selected Matt Glidewell to fill an unexpired term on the board with the recent death of board member Tim Gleason. The board met in a special session Monday, where Glidewell was selected from 14 applicants who sought the position. Superintendent Damon Dohar said Glidewell will serve through Dec. 31, 2027, and if he chooses to continue on the board, will need to run in the November 2027 general election. Warrant issued for Girard man accused of threatening partner

LIBERTY — A temporary warrant was issued Monday for a Girard man accused of threatening to kill his significant other and two juvenile children. John Newman, 56, faces a charge of domestic violence in Girard Municipal Court. According to a police report, officers were called to a Churchill Road residence in reference to a domestic, and dispatchers said the caller alleged that her significant other was threatening her and was highly intoxicated.
