WARREN — A Youngstown man pleaded guilty and was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison for leading Liberty police on a chase in a stolen vehicle Dec. 29, 2025. Leighland D. Johnson, 41, of Dupont Street, entered his guilty plea to charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and felony vandalism before Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Sarah T. Kovoor, who sentenced him to consecutive prison terms totaling 24 months. Liberty road superintendent offers project updates

LIBERTY — Community improvements have quite literally been front and center for anyone navigating the Churchill portion of Belmont Avenue, and trustees learned the status of these and other ongoing improvements. At Monday’s meeting, trustees heard from Road Superintendent Wayne Hickman, who said the “never-ending” Belmont Avenue sidewalk project, which kicked off March 30, is undergoing some design changes. “We changed the design at the corner of (State Route) 304, (State Route) 193 to go behind the telephone poles; that’s why it’s been sitting stagnant,” Hickman said. ...

Howland, OSHP respond to motorcycle crash

HOWLAND — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an early Tuesday crash involving a motorcycle and SUV in Howland. Reports state safety crews were called around 7 a.m. Tuesday to the intersection of North River Road and state Route 46. The person on the motorcycle was found lying in the road and transported to the hospital. The Howland Fire Department also responded to the accident scene. A spokesman said the victim, a man, was in serious condition and transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
