Auditor seeks equipment for county IT department

WARREN — Trumbull County Auditor Martha Yoder is asking county commissioners to provide an estimated $125,000 to replace equipment needed by the county’s Information Technology department. YOUNGSTOWN — When Akiva Academy middle schoolers return to classes Sept. 8, they will do so in a brand new school. An open house and ribbon cutting took place Monday morning at the Altschuler Akiva Academy Goldstone-Mirkin Family Middle School at the Suzi Solomon Campus. The new school is in the former Allen’s Pharmacy Building across Gypsy Lane from the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, where the students in grades 5 through 8 formerly were in a hallway at the back of the building. Man, 19, has hearing on alleged aggravated burglary

WARREN — Craig Sims, 19, of Willard Avenue, is in the Trumbull County jail awaiting a preliminary hearing Thursday in Warren Municipal Court for allegedly kicking in the door to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment on Beal Street NW on Aug. 25 and pointing a gun at her. He left and was arrested a short time later. Sims was arraigned last week on aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony. He could get about 10 years in prison if he is convicted of the offense. LIBERTY — A Youngstown man faces evidence tampering charges after Liberty police noted there was evidence that he swallowed drugs during a traffic stop to avoid apprehension. Michael Tomlinson, 26, faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence in Girard Municipal Court. Warren man reports assault and truck theft

WARREN — The Warren Police Department is investigating a Sunday night incident in which a city man reported being robbed of his blue truck by two people who hit him on the head several times with a gun before getting into the truck and leaving. The incident happened at 8:29 p.m. at 2668 Front Street SW near Kenworthy Street and Raiders Path, which is near Deemer Park and the former Westlawn area that is being redeveloped for industrial use. HUBBARD — Harding Park officials will hold off on creating a committee for now after discussions about funding campaign materials for a levy ahead of November’s election concluded with one member offering to pay for signs. Park Commissioner Mike Stiver said at Monday’s special meeting that he spoke with Mark Finamore, the board’s attorney, who said officials legally cannot fund signs using their general fund.
