Girard chief wants drug processing station

GIRARD — Police Chief John Freeman is seeking council’s support to use $27,000 in opioid settlement funds for a dedicated narcotics/evidence processing station at the police department. Freeman told city council Monday the police department does not have a dedicated station like other departments for officers to process narcotics safely. Legislators introduce bill to help connect businesses with colleges

State Reps. David Thomas and Nick Santucci, who both represent Trumbull County in the Ohio House, introduced a bill they say will better connect businesses with colleges and universities by providing students with workforce training opportunities. The Joining Opportunities, Businesses and Schools (JOBS) Act includes certificate programs that align with in-demand workforce needs, the legislators said. Youngstown juveniles captured after fleeing in stolen car in Warren

WARREN — A Youngstown juvenile was arrested and taken to the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center following a Thursday night incident in which Warren police officers chased him and four other juveniles in a stolen car. All were captured. The arrested juvenile was charged with felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, receiving stolen property and a citation for having no driver’s license and stop sign violations after he admitted to stealing the car and then picking up his friends to drive them around. Buyers across the country have reported paying for shipping containers from a business claiming to be in Mahoning County, but the buyers never received their purchases. The Better Business Bureau of the Mahoning Valley (BBB) is urging consumers to use caution when purchasing shipping containers online. Niles will receive $1M housing grant

NILES — Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced Friday $14 million in grants to support the creation of workforce housing in 10 counties. One of the communities receiving funds is Niles, which will receive a $1 million grant to develop public infrastructure and create workforce housing within the Mahoning Valley.
