Man charged with several offenses in apparent accidental shooting

WARREN — Michael A. Sloan Jr., 24, of Maryland Street NW, was arraigned Friday in Warren Municipal Court on felony tampering with evidence and misdemeanor assault, using weapons while intoxicated and discharging firearms in a Thursday night incident in which another man was shot in the leg in the Warren Heights apartments on Maryland Street NW. Sloan was not charged with intentionally shooting the victim. Witnesses said the shooting was an accident. EEOC files discrimination lawsuit against Bon Secours Mercy Health

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court alleging that Mercy Health Physicians Youngstown and Bon Secours Mercy Health in Youngstown violated federal law by allegedly subjecting a Jewish orthopedic surgeon to unfavorable terms and conditions of employment and firing him because of his religion and race shortly after the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in Israel. Ohio’s electric infrastructure to get $273M upgrade

Ohio’s existing high-voltage electric infrastructure will be updated through $273 million in funding. The U.S. Department of Energy is providing $136 million through its Speed to Power through Accelerated Reconductoring and other Key Advanced Transmission Upgrades (SPARK) initiative while Ohio’s utility companies are paying $137 million for the improvement work. Prosecutors again oppose parole for 70-year-old murderer

WARREN — Trumbull County prosecutors are opposing parole for Paul Brown, 70, when he comes up for a parole hearing in November because of his inability to stay out of trouble when he was paroled two previous times and because of the murder he committed in Warren in 1974.
