Tourism spending brings visitors, cash to Trumbull
WARREN — For every $1 of lodging tax spent on its tourism bureau and its marketing efforts, Trumbull County received an average of $286 in direct visitor spending, according to a report expected to be released to the commissioners during Wednesday’s meeting.
Beth Carmichael, executive director of the Trumbull County Tourism Bureau, said the county gained approximately $80 million in advertisement-influenced visitor spending in 2023 and 2024.
“These are people who came to Trumbull County events based on advertisements they saw, not because they were in the county for other reasons,” Carmichael said.
There were more than 76,000 advertisements that influenced visits to the county, which increased by 48% over 2019.
The Trumbull County Tourism Bureau has three full-time employees, including Carmichael, and one part-time employee.
The bureau last year printed 40,000 copies of the Truly Trumbull Trip Ideas magazine at a cost of $46,649. It received 2,698 requests for its visitor guide.
When compared with Mahoning, Mercer, Cuyahoga, Stark and Summit counties, Trumbull experienced a 5.2% increase in the amount of money visitors spent in the area, according to Placer AI.
The number of times visitors stayed within Trumbull was up by 2% compared to 2024.
There has been an 8.9% increase in growth in the number of visitors from the Cleveland and Akron areas and a 4.1% growth in visitors coming from the Pittsburgh region, according to the report.
There was a 2.1% decline in visitors from New York. Total visitor trips into the county declined by 0.3%.
Truly Trumbull experienced more than 4.6 million Facebook views, which is a 920% increase in year-over-year performance, according to the report. It had nearly 1.2 million Facebook Reel views, a 329% year-over-year increase.
The 60-Mile Yard Sale generated more than 1.5 million views, with 2,020 shares and 816 comments. There were no advertising dollars spent on these organic posts.
Cockeye BBQ videos that were repurposed on Facebook and YouTube had 79,000 views, at no cost.
Trumbull has an advertisement partnership with Fox 8’s New Day Cleveland that had four segments on the program in 2025, which reaches viewers in the Cleveland, Columbus and Pittsburgh regions.
It also had advertisements in Ohio Magazine, Pittsburgh Magazine and the Pennsylvania-based SIP Magazine.
