Joyce joins House Homeland Security Committee

U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce, a Republican who represents all of Trumbull County, is the newest member of the House Committee on Homeland Security.

Joyce of Bainbridge was appointed by the U.S. House on Tuesday by unanimous consent after the House Republican Conference ratified his selection. The House Republican Steering Committee, of which Joyce is a member, recommended him for the committee assignment.

Joyce, whose congressional district will include a section of Mahoning County next year, had served as chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security. Joyce was appointed chairman of that subcommittee in January 2023 and left it in April 2024 to become chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government.

Joyce, who has served 13 years on the powerful Appropriations Committee, is also a member of its Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development; and Subcommittee on Defense.

Joyce, who is running for reelection, said, “I am honored to be joining the House Committee on Homeland Security. As a former chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, I bring prior experience overseeing these issues and look forward to contributing to the committee’s work.”

He added, “I look forward to working to maintain a secure border, stop the flow of fentanyl and other deadly narcotics into our communities, and ensure every American is protected at home and abroad.”

The seat on Homeland Security opened with the April 14 resignation of Tony Gonzales, a Texas Republican. Gonzales resigned after admitting to an extramarital affair with a staff member who later committed suicide.

U.S. Rep. Andrew Garbarino, a New York Republican who chairs the Homeland Security Committee, said Joyce “brings with him an invaluable perspective on effective governance and a resolute commitment to the core mission of the Department of Homeland Security.”
