Enrollment opens April 22 for senior farmers market program

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Aging is announcing a new season of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, offering eligible Ohioans age 60 and older $50 to spend on fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey.

The program supports healthy eating among older adults and provides revenue for local farmers and markets.

“The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is a fantastic way to bring fruits and vegetables into the homes of older Ohioans while also supporting local farmers,” said AGE Director Ursel J. McElroy.

Aligning with AGE’s vision to make Ohio the best place to age in the nation, the SFMNP increases access to and consumption of fruits and vegetables for older Ohioans while also providing opportunities for community and civic engagement. The program has been shown to enhance older Ohioans’ socialization while also encouraging healthier choices.

Applications for the 2026 season will be available at aging.ohio.gov/SFMNP. Enrollment begins at noon April 22 through 6 p.m. May 22. Applicants must earn less than 185% of the federal poverty level and must reapply each year.

Benefits can be accessed digitally through a smartphone app or via a physical card. Approved participants can begin using funds May 15; physical cards may take four to six weeks to arrive.
