County to award contracts for Golden Triangle
WARREN — Commissioners are expected to approve the awarding of three contracts to move forward with the Golden Triangle infrastructure projects in Warren and Howland.
In the first contract, the county is expected to award Miller Yount Paving Inc. a $521,856 contract to widen roads at the Larchmont Avenue, Bronze Road and Overland Avenue intersection. The work will include full-depth asphalt pavement, adding asphalt pavement, curbs, sidewalks, drive aprons, signage and pavement markings, and replacing a signal at Dietz Road. In addition, 170 feet of storm sewers will be installed.
In the second project, Shelly & Sands Inc., 1450 North Bailey Road, North Jackson, is expected to be awarded a $276,001.76 contract to resurface Bronze Road between Griswold Street and Larchmont Avenue in Howland. The work will include aggregate road shoulders, drive aprons, adding signage, pavement markings and ditches, and having approximately 1,320 feet of storm sewer lines installed.
Gary Shaffer, Trumbull County Engineer Department, noted this is a major artery for truck traffic.
“Wheatland Tube brings all of the trucks in and out on Bronze Road,” he said.
He described significant improvements in the entire Golden Triangle area.
A.P. O’Horo Company, 3130 Belmont Ave. Youngstown, is expected to be hired to do the third Golden Triangle project at a cost of $602,016.20 to do the realignment of the Paige Avenue and Dana Street intersection in Warren. It will include asphalt pavement, curbs, sidewalks, American Disability Act curb ramp, drive aprons, signage and pavement markings. Approximately 355 feet of storm sewer replacement will be installed.
“The local match funding has already been committed,” Planning Commission Director Julie Green noted. “This is the final step prior to executing the contracts. All three of these projects are contingent on approval of the EPA.”
Green described this as a joint economic development grant applied for several years ago by Warren, Howland and Trumbull County to improve infrastructure in the Golden Triangle area, which is a highly concentrated economic area.
Commissioner Tony Bernard noted this will help the whole area to grow.
