Trumbull seeks device to reduce officer drug evidence exposure

WARREN — Commissioners are expected to vote on providing $1,599.50 to purchase an Isola 48-inch powder-coated stand to move a device called a drug hood that was purchased to process evidence confiscated by law enforcement during investigations.

The stand will be used to transport an approximately $6,000 drug hood that reduces the possibility of law enforcement officials being exposed to drugs being brought in as evidence.

Sheriff Capt. John Elberty described the drug hood as very large and said the sheriff’s office wants to be able to move it from the evidence room to process drug paraphernalia.

“It is a very extensive piece of equipment,” he said. “It is used for drug evidence handling. It is enclosed and ventilated to minimize exposure.

“We are requesting to get the stand that is correct for that piece of equipment so we don’t have to process the evidence in an enclosed evidence room space,” Elberty continued.

The equipment will be available for other law enforcement agencies to use.

Starting at $3.23/week.
