Vienna gives updates on McCullough restitution

VIENNA — Obtaining the funds that the township was promised as a result of their former fiscal officer’s sentencing less than a year ago continues to drag on, trustees said at their meeting Tuesday.

Trustee Kim Ellis asked for an update regarding bond money from Acrisure, an insurance company, in relation to former fiscal officer Linda McCullough, who was sentenced to eight years in prison July 29.

Fiscal Officer Heidi Brown said she’s still waiting for current letters from the IRS to understand the township’s fines and penalties, so they could get the whole $195,000.

“He (the broker) is ready to file the claim, but he wants the backup and I do not have the backup,” Brown said.

Trustee Phil Pegg said he has reached out to U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce’s office to inform staffers that they needed the backup documents. Pegg said they received the documents at one time, but Brown and Trustee Mike Haddle said they went missing.

“We know the amounts because he (Joyce) got the interest stopped, but I can’t just hand them a piece of paper; they gotta have a backup,” Brown said.

Pegg said the township hasn’t received anymore of McCullough’s restitution — $120,371 she was ordered to pay as part of her sentencing.

“I spoke to Samantha (Bayus) of the clerk of courts; she’s their bookkeeper. She (McCullough) has not paid anymore money than what we’ve received already,” Pegg said. “I did talk with Hally (Abruzzi) in Judge (Cynthia Westcott) Rice’s, they’re both looking at it because they should have received more money by now and they haven’t, so they’re looking into it.”

Brown said the township has received “just under” $30,000 from McCullough.

Haddle admitted that he doubts the township will see another dime of McCullough’s money.

“I’m surprised we saw $30,000, to be honest; no offense to anybody, but people were like, ‘They’re starting to spend this money,’ and I doubt we’ll see it,” Haddle said. “I don’t see it coming — not to be negative on it, but I don’t see it coming through.”

Starting at $3.23/week.
