Falls treasure hunt prizes surpass $25K
NEWTON FALLS — The Newton Falls Treasure Hunt has officially surpassed $25,000 in cash, gold, silver and other rare valuables.
The publicly organized treasure hunt is being hosted by Fieldview Acres Mercantile in downtown Newton Falls, with the hunt to begin at noon Tuesday when the first official clue is released.
Tracy Colosimo, organizer of the Newton Falls Treasure Hunt and owner of Fieldview Acres, said clues will be published every two weeks on Fieldview Acres Mercantile’s Facebook, Instagram and TikTok pages, and will be available in person at the store.
She said 10 clues total will be released, with hopes of this treasure hunt continuing through July.
Colosimo said the prize chest contains a growing collection of cash, gold coins, silver coins and jewelry, and continues to expand as new sponsors join the effort.
“We set out to create something worthy of this moment in our country’s history and something that would bring people into Newton Falls. It’s already working exactly as intended,” Colosimo said.
She said although the hunt has not yet begun, Newton Falls already has seen increased visitor traffic.
Colosimo said businesses throughout town, including restaurants, retailers and service providers, are reporting an uptick in customers stopping in to explore the area ahead of the Tuesday launch.
The treasure hunt is free to the public and is designed to unfold gradually over several months through historically layered clues requiring research, observation and patience.
Colismo said Fieldview Acres Mercantile will continue seeking additional sponsors until the treasure is officially found, with hopes of substantially increasing the final prize value even further.
Community members and businesses interested in contributing to the growing prize chest are encouraged to contact Colosimo.
