Warren Township tasked with filling 2 positions
WARREN TOWNSHIP — Trustee Tyler Wilson attended his first official meeting since being elected Nov. 4 and already has a big task — along with his fellow trustees — of finding a new fiscal officer and a new zoning inspector.
Trustees at their organizational meeting Tuesday said they have accepted the resignation of Fiscal Officer Chris Haught, who said he will help until a new person is named. Haught served as fiscal officer for two years.
Trustee Chairman Ed Anthony said trustees officially accepted Haught’s resignation on Sunday at an emergency meeting.
Trustee Ryan Yoho said Haught has a new job that has longer hours, which will make it difficult for him to serve as fiscal officer and attend trustee meetings. Anthony said since Haught’s resignation has been accepted, they have 30 days to fill the fiscal officer position, which will be Feb. 4.
Yoho said the position needs to be posted quickly since Haught was not sure how much longer he will be able to perform his duties. He said Haught is willing to assist in training the new person on the computer software.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, trustees approved the reappointment of Jason Miner as assistant fiscal officer at $16 per hour and Keith Smallsreed as assistant fiscal officer at $15 per hour. They also will help with fiscal officer duties when Haught is unable to do so.
The township also is looking for a part-time zoning inspector since Wilson was serving in that position for about two years and will have to resign since he was elected trustee.
That position also is being posted.
Wilson said he will handle the zoning inspector duties until a new person is named.
Wilson said he looks forward to being a trustee and finding ways to open the township for development.
“We need to put the township in a good position for future development. We are in a good spot as a township with available land. I will focus on the growth and development of the township,” he said.
Wilson said as a trustee, he will focus on making sure the police, fire and road departments have what they need and the roads, parks and cemetery are maintained.
Wilson replaces Kay Anderson, who served for 28 years as a township trustee before retiring in December.
As zoning inspector, Wilson has worked with the zoning board and the zoning board of appeals to begin updating the 1980s township comprehensive plan.
In other business, trustees approved effective Jan. 17 that all noncollective bargaining part-time police officers will be paid $19 per hour and work no less than 16 hours per week and be given a $250 uniform allowance.
The noncollective bargaining part-time employees of the emergency medical service and duty crew will be paid $16 per hour for emergency medical technicians, $17 per hour for intermediate EMTs and $18 per hour for paramedics. All volunteer firefighters of the fire department will be paid $14 per call and be paid quarterly.
The noncollective bargaining part-time employees of the road department will be paid $17 per hour.
In other business, trustees:
• Named Anthony as chairman and Wilson as vice chairman.
• Set meetings for 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at township hall.
• Declared property at 2855 Tod Ave. SW insecure, unsafe and structurally defective, following an inspection by fire officials and the county building inspector. The township is working with Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership on the structure.
• Named Dannette Antes as part-time Johnson Community Center custodian at $1,025 per month. Compensation will be $15 per hour when the center is closed to the public.
• Named Marsha Armstrong as part-time custodian of the township administration building and substitute Johnson Community Centercustodian at $15 per hour.
•Approved paying secretary of the zoning board and zoning appeals board $35 per meeting and paying zoning board and zoning appeals board members $25 per meeting and chairman $35 per meeting.
