Sanson appointed to McDonald council seat
McDONALD — Village officials have named Joe Sanson to fill an opening on council.
Sanson, who is a Youngstown State University associate professor of engineering, was selected from a group of nine applicants.
No one in the November general election had filed to seek the open seat, so council had 30 days from Jan. 1 to fill the position.
Sanson will serve a four-year term on council through December 2029.
There were four council seats up for this year.
Elected in November to council was new member Brian Bosheff and incumbents John Metzinger and Kerry Reckard.
In other business at Wednesday’s meeting. Mayor Ray Lewis said the village is seeking grant funding for improvements and upgrades to the village park ballfields. Some are 30 years old.
Lewis said KO Consulting is assisting the village in seeking available funds.
He said the work needed at the ballfields includes new dugouts, bases and pitching mounds and new roofs for concession stands.
Also, Dan Jamieson was promoted from a fire lieutenant to a captain and Todd Stitt from a firefighter to a fire lieutenant.
Jamieson and Stitt were given the oath of office at the meeting.
